River Watch

About River Watch

Sampling from April to October, and analyzing data from November to March, the Barnesville River Watch team is active year-round. When it is warm out, six students and one advisor go out to 20 different sites around the Barnesville area once a month. Collecting data for several parameters such as dissolved oxygen, turbidity, pH, stream depth and many more is an all-day task. Once it gets cold outside we take all the data we collected and we start analyzing it, making graphs and charts to give a visual display of our results. During December we start taking those charts and putting them into Powerpoint, adding pictures and dialogue. All this work is to prepare for the student River Watch Forum, held annually in either Grand Forks or Crookston.

Over the past few years we have received many awards at the Forum.
2003-04 Voyager Award
2005 Voyager Award
2005 Silver Award
2007 Voyager Award
2007 Gold Award
2008 Voyager Award (to Mrs. Carlson)
2008 Gold Award
